Cuttack: Satichoura Chhack in Cuttack was formally declared as the first ‘Zero Tolerance Zone’ of the city on Thursday.
The zone encompassing the crossing as well as the connecting roads was inauguarted by Praveen Kumar, DCP of Cuttack.
The zone demarcation entails strict enforcement of traffic rules and immediate action against violators. Riders without helmets and seat belts will be fined ranging from Rs 100 to Rs 1,000, which will be extended to violations like triple riding, overspeeding, crossing the zebra lines, driving on the wrong side and using phone while driving. Higher limits of the penal provisions would be imposed on the violators caught in the zone.
The Commissionerate Police had planned to have a Zero Tolerance Zone at Satichoura Chhak as it is an important crossing with heavy traffic as it links the CDA or Abhinab Bidanasi to the heartland of Cuttack.
In the meantime, the Commissionerate Police has launched a sensitization drive from February 27 for the commuters to make them aware of the zone.
Two officers along with four constables would be posted on the zone for monitoring and regulating traffic flow.
