Dhamra, Mar 4, 2012: A sensitization workshop for ice factory workers and trawler drivers of Dhamra port periphery, Basudevpur and Chudamani areas was organised by Dhamra Port Company Ltd (DPCL) on the occasion of 41st National Safety Day observance on Sunday.
Around 40 ice factory workers from 20-odd ice factories of Dhamra, Basudevpur and Chudamani areas along with 30 other trawler drivers and crew members attended the workshop held within Dhamra Port premises. The main objective of behind organising such workshop was to sensitize the ice factory workers and trawler drivers on various safety issues, health hazards and their preventions. This was organised by the CSR department of DPCL as part of the company’s fisherman engagement programme.
Mr. Krupasindhu Pani, an expert trainer on Industrial Safety and former deputy director of Factories and Boilers, Government of Odisha attended the workshop as chief guest and imparted training to the participants on various aspects. Strict implementation of safety guidelines and review of the same on regular intervals is very essential both for the workers as well as the factory managers, he informed.
Similarly, while going for fishing into the deep sea trawlers drivers were advised to carry first-aid boxes, fire extinguishers, safety jackets and safety gloves to prevent any possible health hazards. They were also advised to maintain strict hygiene while storing drinking water and disposing food left-overs.
Among others present on the workshop were the general secretary of Dhamrai Fisherman Association Shri PK Jena and the medical officer of DPCL Community Health Centre Dr NK Padhi.
DPCL also organised various other programmes like quiz, poster making and safety slogan competition for its officers and workers on the occasion of the Safety Day observance. Senior officials of the company attended the workshop and administered a safety pledge.
