Bhubaneswar: The 96th birth anniversary of legendary leader Biju Patnaik also celebrated as Panchayati Raj Divas was celebrated amidst many functions such as mini marathon, meetings, rallies in the State capital. Ruling BJD celebrated it with much fanfare as the party also completed twelve years in power.
A function was organised by the Biju Janata Dal to pay tributes to the memory of Biju Patnaik on the late leader’s birth anniversary at Forest Park. Among others Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Dr. Prasanna Kumar Patasani, MP, Shri Badri Narayan Patra, Hon’ble Minister of Higher Education, Sports & Youth Services, Odisha, Shri Baishnab Charan Parida, MP were present.
A mini marathon was organized in the State capital today. People from all walks of life participated in the 11 km run from Forest Park to KIIT University campus.
Biju Jayanti was also celebrated at the Party Office of Biju Janata Dal in Bhubaneswar. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Dr. Prasanna Kumar Patasani, MP, Prafulla Chandra Ghadai, State Finance Minister, A U Singhdeo, Former Excise Minister, Pyarimohan Mohapatra, Rajya Sabha MP, Prasanna Acharya, State Health Minister, Baijayant Panda, Lok Sabha Member, Dr. Damodar Rout, and other senior BJD leaders were present.
Naveen in his address accused the Centre for its continuous neglect of the state and laid stress on the duty and responsibility especially of the female elected representatives at the panchayat level.
Senior BJD leader and Rajya Sabha member Pyari Mohan Mohapatra demanded that the royalty on minerals should be raised to 50 per cent and also asked the party workers to win over the hearts of family members of each and every family in the state.
Several other prominent leaders like Prasanna Acharya and Lok Sabha member Baijayant Panda threw light on the ideology and dreams of the legendary leaders and also spoke about some conspiracies and treachery meted out to Biju Patnaik.
Finance Minister Prafulla Ghadai claimed that the per capita income in the State has gone up while there was decrease in poverty.
Senior BJD MLA Anang Udaya Singhdeo said that the State Government should urge the Centre to raise the Kalinga Regiment in the Indian Army.
Apart from this the State Government has organized a state-level function to be held here in the evening which will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, official sources said.
A two-day photo exhibition on the life and time of the legendary leader will also be inaugurated on this occasion.
