Bhubaneswar: The Crime Branch, who is investigating into the alleged Pipili gangrape incident submitted its chargesheet against Prashant Pradhan and Sukant Pradhan at the JMFC court, Pipili today. However, the Crime Branch has completely absolved the two other accuseds, Premananda Nayak and Gunachandra Swain in the sensational case.
The Crime Branch has submitted a chargesheet of 448 pages and 13 DVDs and CDs.
As per the chargesheet submitted by the Crime Branch, the prime accused of the incident Prashant Pradhan alias Pasei had tried to strangulate the victim, but there was no evidence of attempt to rape.
The chargesheet said “on the day of the incident, Prashant used the dupatta of the victim to strangulate her” and ran away thinking she was dead. The report categorically stated that it was Prashant alone who attacked the girl.
Moreover, in his examination in lie detection test, Prashant admitted to the fact of strangulation and attempt to kill the victim but not admitted to rape or attempt to rape. The medico-legal examination of victim Medical Board of AIIMS, New Delhi as well as chemical examination of the victim’s garments had also ruled out rape.
It is noteworthy to mention that the 19-year-old dalit girl was allegedly gang raped on November 28 last year. The shocking incident came to light, when the girl was denied proper treatment at a hospital and some journalists reported on her.
The incident has created a political storm, prompting Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy to resign on Jan 19 on moral grounds after the opposition and the girl’s family alleged that he had protected the accuseds.
The incident was investigated by the Crime Branch of the state police and a one-man judicial commission headed by Justice PK Mohanty, retired judge of the Orissa High Court.
As a part of its probe, Crime Branch had already conducted polygraph tests on all the four accused allegedly involved in this case.
