Cuttack: Former judicial magistrate of Rourkela Arun Patnaik, who is entangled in the cops-magistrate scuffle, deposed before Justice A S Naidu Commission on Sunday and denied that he was drunk on the night of April 2, 2011 when he was allegedly assaulted by the local police.

In his reply to the cross examinations by the counsel of police, Patnaik said he was manhandled by Sadananda Pujari, the then IIC of Uditnagar police station in Rourkela and was dragged by his shoulders to the police station.

The magistrate also said that he had contacted the then Rourkela SP Deeptesh Patnaik over telephone regarding the incident, who instead of taking any action against the policemen, insisted on reaching at a mutual compromise.

It is noteworthy to mention that Subhasmita Satpathy, the wife of the magistrate and Bijay Kumar Patnaik, paternal uncle of the magistrate had deposed before the Commission on Saturday.

The Commission has posted the next sitting to March 24.
