Bhubaneswar: The Odisha unit of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Monday threatened to launch an agitation if the Government conceded to the request of Maoist leader Dona Keshav Rao alias Azad and released him.
Claiming that people would lose faith in the administration of justice and law and order of the State if Azad was released from the jail, Durga Prasad Kar, President VHP Odisha in a Press Meet at Hotel Marrion on Monday, told that Azad was one of the master minds, in the murder of Swami Laxamanand Saraswati. He had trained people, prepared the tactical plan and provided logistic support for killing the saint.
Apart from this Azad was also involved in the looting of Nayagarh Police armoury and the burning of R Udaygiri Police station. He is involved in murder, looting and is an arsonist. Hence he should be punished under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Kar also said that the Odisha Government should follow the ‘policy’ of West Bengal and Chhatisgarh and either arrest or eliminate the Maoist leaders involved in heinous crimes.
