Bhubaneswar: The Election Commission on Monday issued notification for the biennial election for 58 Rajya Sabha seats from 15 States.

The polling will be held on March 30.

In Odisha, elections will be held for three States. The last day of filing nominations is March 19. The nomination papers will be scrutinized on March 20. The last day for the withdrawal of nominations is March 22.

The three members whose terms will end on April 03 are Kishore Chandra Mohanty from BJD, Rudranarayan Pani from BJP and Sushila Tiria from Congress.

The ruling BJD party is sure to win two of these three seats as it has the numbers to win two seats. The party is short of two votes for the victory of a third candidate. However the BJD is yet to announce any candidate for the two seats.

In this context, BJD Rajya Sabha member Pyarimohan Mohapatra and former State BJP President Suresh Pujari have said that all political parties should reach a consensus on the third candidate and an eminent citizen should be sent to the Upper House.

The Congress will support an independent candidate if there is a consensus among the Opposition parties.
