New Delhi: The allocation for the urban development ministry has been increased by over 12 percent from Rs.6,855.23 crore in 2011-2012 to Rs.7,729.38 crore in 2012-13, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said while presenting the budget in the Lo Sabha on Friday.

However, the ambitious Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) has received a whopping 79 percent increase – from Rs.49 crore in 2011-2012 crore to Rs.88 crore in 2012-13.

While Rs.1,628 crore has been allotted for construction of buildings belonging to various ministries, Rs.603 crore has been earmarked for water supply and sanitation in metros across the country.
