Athgarh: Barring a few stray incidents and EVM snatching in one booth polling in the much-hyped Athgarh constituency was held peacefully on Sunday.
Sources said around 70 per cent voters exercised their franchise beating the scorching heat as they lined before 198 booths of the segment throughout the day. Athgarh has 1.85 lakh voters in its electoral list of which around 80,000 are women voters.
The state chief electoral officer has however ordered re-polling in booth number 14 in Sunthipal under Tigiria police station after some unidentified persons barged into the booth and looted the electronic voting machine (EVM) alleging that the polling was conducted in a very unfair manner. The re-polling would be held on Tuesday.
It is noteworthy to mention that a total of 7 candidates were contesting for the seat. However the contest is mainly between the BJD, the Congress and the BJP.
Counting of the votes will be done on March 21.
