Cuttack: Renowned litterateur Shri Chandrasekhar Rath was crowned with the prestigious “Sahitya Bharati Samman-2011″ in a special function at Kala Vikas Kendra here on Sunday for his distinguished contributions to Odia literature.
The award carried a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, a filigree memento of the Sun Temple of Konark and a citation.
Shri Rath in his illustrious career, has written many upanishads and poems apart from stories.
Apart from this eminent Odissi dancer, Minati Mishra was conferred with “Gangadhar Rath Smaraki Samman- 2011”.
In addition to this, poetess Banaja Devi was honored with “Bhanuji Rao Samman-2011″ which carried a cash prize of Rs 25,000.
Noted literary personality Manindra Kumar Meher and story writer Chirashree Indra Singh were also conferred with the “Subrat Rath Memorial Award”. Each of them got a cash prize of Rs 15,000 and a citation.
The honors will be conferred by Shri M. C. Bhandare, His Excellency the Governor of Odisha.
It is noteworthy to mention that the award ceremony was organised by the Gangadhar Rath Foundation Trust which has been honouring eminent persons in the field of Odia literature every year.
