Cuttack: After the order to demolish parts of Chhauni Matha on March 15, Orissa High Court on Monday ordered the partly demolition the Bada Chhata Matha citing security reasons to the Meghanad Pacheri and the Lions Gate.
According to Archeological survey of India (ASI), the Bada Chhatta Matha is located towards the northern side of Lions Gate. A Division Bench of Justices, BP Das and Sanju Panda in their verdict stated that there should be a minimum of 10-foot gap between the boundary wall and the Matha.
Earlier, another Bench of Justices, PK Mohanty and I Mohanty had ordered for the demolition of Chhauni Matha, which was situated to the sourthern side of the Lions Gate.
Moreover, the Committee, headed by the Endowments Commissioner along with the members of ASI, Bhubaneswar circle, formed by the court for the assessment of the mathas had also recommended demolition of the mathas stating that it may cause serious threat to the boundary wall and the Lions Gate.
