Puri: The daily rituals of the Jagannath temple at Puri was delayed by nine hours as the servitors on Wednesday protested against the restriction of the entry of devotees inside Puri Jagannath temple’s sanctum sanctorum which was enforced on Tuesday.
The daily rituals, resumed after intervention of the temple administration. Devotees had to wait for hours, as the temple doors remained closed.
The decision on the restriction of the entry of devotees inside Puri Jagannath temple’s sanctum sanctorum was taken by the temple managing committee in consultation with the servitors associated with rituals in the main shrine to streamline the observance of daily nitees on Tuesday. The prohibition of entry inside the sanctum sanctorum would help in the timely conduction of rituals. Besides, it would also help reduce the vapour load inside the area.
However on Wednesday a group of servitors protested against the restriction as a result of which rituals like ‘Mangal Arati’ and ‘Surya Puja’ could not be performed.
