Miami: India’s Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna cruised into the men’s doubles second round of the Miami Masters with a win over Austria’s Jurgen Melzer and Briton Jamie Murray.
The sixth seeded Indian pair won 7-5, 6-3 in little over an hour in the first round Saturday.
Bhupathi and Bopanna saved all the three breakpoints that Melzer and Murray got. The Indians also converted two of the six chances they got.
Bhupathi and Bopanna also won a total of 63 points while the Austrian-British pair managed 49. They will now face Spaniards Marcel Granollers and Rafael Nadal in the second round.
Meanwhile in the women’s event, Sania Mirza and her Russian partner Elena Vesnina went down 6-1, 1-6, 9-11 to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia and Czech Republic’s Lucie Safarova in the first round of the doubles.
Pavlyuchenkova and Safarova took an hour and six minutes to beat the Indo-Russian pair.
India’s Leander Paes and his Czech partner Radek Stepanek have already crossed the first round beating Marcos Baghdatis and Sam Querrey.
