U N Behera, Home Secretary addressing media on the hostage issue
Bhubaneswar: Talks to secure the release of the Italian tourist Bosusco Paolo (54) held hostage by Maoists since March 14, resumed today after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik made a fresh appeal to the Maoists to release him unharmed.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today informed the Assembly that the Government had not yet received any demand from the abductors of Laxmipur MLA Jhina Hikaka for his safe release. Patnaik made an appeal to the abductors to release Jhina Hikaka unharmed.

Adding more Patnaik said that he had personally requested the two mediators B D Sharma and Dandapani Mohanty, to continue discussions and end the talks as soon as possible. Patnaik informed that the other Italian, Claudio Colangelo, abducted along with Bosusco, has arrived safely in Bhubaneswar after his release on Sunday.

“We are optimistic about early end to talks on release of Italian national,” said, U N Behera, Home Secretary.

It is noteworthy to mention that the talks with Maoist mediators were suspended on March 24 in the wake of Hikaka’s abduction by another group of Maoists in Koraput district early on Saturday.
