Bhubaneswar: The State Government that had decided to facilitate the release of 27 prisoners, including eight Maoists, to secure the release of Italian tour operator Bosusco Paolo and Biju Janata Dal legislator Jhina Hikaka, is yet to name the persons who are to be released.
The State Government however is hopeful about getting some positive information from the abductors.
“We are waiting for a response from the Maoist groups holding the BJD legislator from Laxmipur, Jhina Hikaka and Italian Paolo Bosusco after it was announced that the State government will facilitate release of 27 persons from jails,” a senior official said.
Chief Minister Mr. Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday said that, “Considering the safety of Jhina Hikaka, the young tribal MLA of Laxmipur, it has been decided by the State Government to facilitate the release of 15 members of Chasi Mulia Adibasi Sangha and also eight left wing extremists who are now lodged in jails.”
Apart from this, the Government had also agreed to release four persons from the list of 30 persons given by the Orissa State Organising Committee (OSOC) of the CPI Maoists led by Sabyasachi Panda, Mr. Patnaik said.
As the deadline set by the Andhra Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee, for the fulfillment of its demands to ensure the safe release of Hikaka will end today, Mr. Patnaik is expected to announce the names of the eight Maoists and 19 others soon.
