Dhamra: Dhamra Port celebrated the 49th National Maritime Day within the port premises as well as with the periphery people in local villages by organising various awareness building programmes.
The week-long celebrations, which included inter-school maritime day quiz and debate competition, a motor cycle rally for fishermen awareness, encouragement propgrammes for visually impaired as well as speech and hearing impaired children of the district, in-house cricket and other competitions among the company officers, concluded on Thursday.
After selection of one team each from 14 schools of Dhamra Port and Dhamra-Bhadrak rail corridor areas, the final inter-school Maritime Day quiz was held at the Dhamra Port community hall premises in which Maa Dhamrai High School, Narsinghpur emerged the winner. In the debate competition held on the theme “Rich Maritime History of Odisha” a student from Amarnagar Upper Primary School, Priyanka Patra emerged as the the winner.
Collector and District Magistrate of Bhadrak, Sri Akhay Kumar Pani presented trophies to the winning teams. He also gave away prizes to the visually impaired and speech and hearing impaired students qualifying in the drawing, debate and song competitions.
A special function was organised by the port for the Maritime Day celebrations in which Director of Ports and Inland Water Transport, Government of Odisha Sri SK Rout attended as the chief guest.
In the cultural event, child artists from the Lahudi Research Centre of Bideipur gave stage performances which enthralled the audience.
Among others, Special Land Acquisition Officer (LAO) of Bhadrak Sri Suryakanta Padhi, Chief Executive Officer of DPCL Sri Santosh Kumar Mohapatra, Vice-Presidents of DPCL Cdr Anil Kar and Cdr Prem Sinha were present.
