Bhubaneswar: Indian Red Cross Society, Odisha State Branch celebrated the World Red Cross Day amidst much jubilation today.
On the occasion, a Voluntary Blood Donation camp was conducted at the Police Ground, Bhubaneswar, in which over 800 units of blood was collected.
Apart from this membership badges were distributed to new Red Cross life members in a public meeting.

Coordinator Mr. Marek Reish and Mr. Surinder Singh, Sr. Political Advisor joined in the celebrations. An interaction between ICRC delegates and the media took place shortly after the public meeting where the upcoming plans of the IRCS, Odisha Branch were discussed.
In the evening, a State level function was hosted at Jayadev Bhawan. Shri M C Bhandare, His Excellency the Governor of Odisha and President IRCS-OSB, graced the occasionas the Chief Guest.
Shri Badrinarayan Patra, Honourble Minister for Higher Education and Shri Pratap Jena, Honorable Minister of State for School & Mass Education and Mr. Paul Keen, Cooperation Coordinator, ICRC were present as Guests of Honour.
Shri Raghunath Sahoo, a protégé of SAHAYA, was felicitated by His Excellency for his exceptional talents. Apart from this aids and appliances for ten selected persons with disability (PWD) were distributed along with one sewing machine and a CD player, during the event.
In addition to this, the maiden edition of the quarterly newsletter –IRCS-OSB was unveiled by His Excellency the Governor of Odisha. The revamped website of IRCS –OSB, with several new pages and interactive features for the visitors, was also launched during the occasion.
A photo exhibition depicting the evolution and recent events of IRCS-OSB was organized for enabling the visitors to have a bird’s eye view of Red Cross in Odisha. Life Members and staff were felicitated for outstanding performances. Cultural performances by the children with disability from SAHAYA and a skit by life members of Red Cross charmed the audience during the celebrations.
