Bhubaneswar: In a bid to get greener, the state Government in collaboration with the forest department is all set to initiate a major afforestation drive in the State.
Under the drive as many as five crore saplings will be planted this year and to execute this drive, the state has also decided to get its citizens involved.
While the forest department will plant about three crore saplings, the rest would be distributed among the public.
This was decided in a high level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the State Sectariat on Tuesday.
The drive would be carried out in 27 towns of the State and Bhubaneswar alone will share three lakh.
The idea to plant various types of saplings along side 1600 km road in the state. Apart from this plantation of bamboo saplings would be promoted in Kandhamal and Gajapati districts.
