Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday laid the foundation stone of Odisha Bhavan at Chennai.

On this occasion, Naveen shared the dias with Tamil Nandu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

Addressing the function, Patnaik said that on completion, Odisha Bhavan will fulfill a long felt desire of the Odia community in Tamil Nadu. Considering the number of visitors from Odisha to Tamil Nadu for health related needs, education and others, the Bhavan will be of great help.

Patnaik also expressed his gratitude to Jayalalithaa for providing required land for the construction of the Bhavan.

Remembering late father Biju Patnaik’s visit to Chennai, Patnaik said, “I remember him speaking about Dr J Jayalalithaa as an able and excellent administrator. I am sure all the people living in your State will endorse the view of my late father.”

Subsequently, Jayalalithaa described Naveen as her “brother” and Biju Patnaik as a “father figure”.

At the function, Jayalalithaa felicitated two eminent Odia artists, sand sculptor Sudarshan Patnaik and Odissi danseuse Kumkum Mohanty. Naveen, in turn, felicitated two renowned Tamil musicians Ilaiyaraaja and Vani Jayaram.
