Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the elections for the urban Local Bodies (ULB) scheduled to be held in early 2013, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday has announced to replicate the “Mamata” Yojana in urban areas soon.
It is noteworthy to mention that prior to the 2012, election to three tier Panchayat bodies, the State Government had introduced the “Mamata Yojana” for rural women in September 2011.
The main objective of the yojana is to reduce the maternal and infant and maternal mortality by improving health and nutritional status of pregnant mothers and their infants.
Under the scheme, an expected woman would get Rs 5,000 in four different instalments with certain conditions. The concerned woman has to register herself at any Anganwadi Centre at the third month of her pregnancy and would be eligible to get the first instalment of Rs 1500.
The second instalment will be given after the birth and properimmunisation of the baby.
However, the scheme would be applicable for urban mothers particularly the labourer and poor class women except in case of the employees families belonging to the State, Central and Public Sector Undertakings.
