Bhubaneswar: Senior Rajya Sabha member Sashibhusan Behera was on Tuesday named as the leader of the BJD’s Parliamentary Party in the Upper House of Parliament replacing senior MP Pyari Mohan Mohapatra, who had resigned from the post last week.
“Sri Sashibhusan Behera is elected as the BJD’s leader in the Rajya Sabha while Mangala Kisan will perform as the party’s whip in the upper house of the Parliament,” said BJD President Naveen Patnaik after a meeting of Rajya Sabha MPs at Naveen Niwas here.
It is noteworthy to mention that prior to his resignation from the post, Mohapatra was suspended from the party on June 1 ,for his alleged attempt to topple Naveen’s Government on May 29, when Naveen was out of the country .
Now Renubala Pradhan will function as the Secretary of the BJD’s Parliamentary party in Rajya Sabha, Patnaik added.
With this the party now has seven members in Rajya Sabha and 14 members in the Lok Sabha.
