Heavy Showers Lashes the State, More to Follow in Next Two Days

Bhubaneswar: Heavy showers triggered by a low pressure area over Bay of Bengal lashed several parts of western and southern Odisha on Friday, throwing the normal life out of gear.

The day witnessed a spurt in rainfall throughout the State. While some places got heavy rain, others witnessed sporadic showers.

Many pockets in Jharsuguda and Sambalpur districts were submerged, while at least eight panchayats in Kandhamal were cut-off after roads were washed way in the rainwater. Among the southern districts, Kandhmal was the worst-hit.

Apart from this many low-lying areas in the twin city of Bhubaneswar – Cuttack, were also inundated due to incessant showers.

The Met Department has predicted heavy showers for the State in next 48 hours along with a warning to fishermen, who have been asked not to venture into the sea for the next 24-hours.
