Earlier on August 16, a crack in the ash pond had led to the destruction of vast agricultural fields along with fertile lands that had created much hue and cry in the area. Not only the lands, but also the river system and the sources of water for human as well as animal consumption were polluted.
A similar ash pond breach incident had occurred on August 7 in which nearly 30 acres of farming land of nearby areas was affected.
