Bhubaneswar: Opposition Congress on Thursday demanded a fresh probe into the murder of former MLA of Umerkote Jagabandhu Majhi, as per the allegations made by the mother of the slain MLA, who was gunned down by unknown miscreants on September 24, 2011.

The issue was raised during the zero hour in the assembly by Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh who drew the attention of Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat towards the allegation made by Majhi’s 70-year-old mother.

The former MLA’s mother in a statement accused present BJD MLA from Umerkote Subas Gond, who was elected in the by-election, responsible for the killing her son. “Subas hatched a conspiracy to kill my son in order to become the MLA of Umerkote,” she told reporters.

However, she has not lodged a written complaint with the police yet.

Mr Gond, who was present in the House when the issue was raised by the Opposition Congress. Shocked by the statement made by the Opposition, particularly at a time when the Crime Branch was inquiring into the incident, Mr Gond described the Opposition statement as a conspiracy to lower his dignity and demanded personal security from the Speaker.

The Opposition Congress members challenged the Speaker for allowing Mr Gond to make statement on point of order and trooped into the well of the House and started raising slogan. The pandemonium continued for sometime and later the agitating members went back to their seats to join the proceedings of the House.
