Bhubaneswar: A Border Security Force (BSF) trooper was killed and another injured Saturday in a land mine blast triggered by Maoists in Odisha’s Koraput district, police said.

The incident occurred in a forested area near Palur village, over 600 km from here, during a combing operation by the BSF.

While a trooper died on the spot, one of his colleagues sustained injuries in the blast, district Superintendent of Police Avinash Kumar told IANS.

In Bargarh district, security forces had a brief exchange of fire with the Maoists.

There was no report of loss of life or injury from either side in the incident that took place in a forested area of Bargarh district.

Three people have been detained during a search operation after the incident, a police officer said.

Maoists are active in more than half of Odisha. Koraput district is considered to be their stronghold but the rebels have also became active in Bargarh district.
