New Delhi: Both houses of parliament were adjourned till 12 noon Wednesday, within minutes of convening, following opposition protests over coal block allocations and promotion quotas, among other issues.
This is the 11th day of parliamentary proceedings being disrupted and question hour being lost due to adjournments.
In the Lok Sabha, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) kept up its chant demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over the coal block allocations. They were joined by the Samajwadi Party members, who shouted against the promotions quota in government jobs that was approved by the union cabinet Tuesday.
In the Rajya Sabha, similar scenes were witnessed with BJP members again raising a din over the coal blocks allocation, a consequence of the Comptroller and Auditor General’s report on presumptive loss of Rs.1.86 lakh crore ($37 billion).
The presiding officers of both houses adjourned it till 12 noon.
