Angul: Barely two months after the tragic death of seven kids due to the Anganwadi Centre (AWC) wall collapse at Suansia Sahi in Nayagarh district on July 9, two kids of an anganwadi centre in Angul district died in a freak accident on Friday.

The children drowned in a 5-ft rainwater-filled pit that was dug for the construction of a new school building near their anganwadi centre.

As the news of the death spread, hundreds of villagers gathered in the school campus and demanded stern action against those responsible for the incident.

Meanwhile, the district administration has ordered a probe into the incident.

It is noteworthy to mention that, the State has about 71,000 Anganwadi centres and more than half of them do not have their own buildings. In the Anganwadi centres, the Government provides early childhood care and pre-school education.
