Bhubaneswar: An elected tribal panchayat ward member was shot dead on Thursday Rajpur village in the Nabarangpur district of Odisha by Maoists, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Rohidas Gond.
A group of armed rebels went to the house of the panchayat ward member and forced him to accompany them. They reportedly shot him dead on the outskirts of the village.
The ultras killed the ward member suspecting him to be a police informer, sources said.
It is noteworthy to mention that Maoists are active in more than half of the area of the State. Meanwhile combing operation and patrolling by the security personnel had been intensified in the area.
