Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Friday staged demonstration against the Union Government’s decision to disinvest 12.25 per cent of the Government’s shares from National Aluminium Company Ltd (NALCO), the only central public sector undertaking (PSU) in the State at the company’s corporate office in Bhubaneswar and warned to intensify their agitation until the government withdraws its decision.
Hundreds of leaders and workers, including legislators and parliament members of the party joined by a large number of NALCO employees, carried out a march shouting slogans against the central government.
“Nalco is a profitable company. The central government has taken the decision to provide benefit to the private companies,” Sanjay Das Burma, BJD legislator and chief of the party’s youth wing told.
“People of the State are emotionally attached with NALCO. We condemn the central government’s decision. We will intensify our protest further,” he added.
The party had organised a similar demonstration in front of the Navratna company’s refinery unit at Damanjodi in Koraput district and at it’s smelter plant at Angul on September 24 and 26 respectively.
