Bhubaneswar: As indicated by the State Commerce and Transport Minister, Subrat Tarai on Friday, bus fares and truck freight rates are set to go up in the state soon.
Tarai after having separate meetings with bus and truck owners said that the proposed hike will not overburden the common man and at the same time will ensure that the transporters too don’t sustain loss in the wake of the recent diesel price hike by over Rs 5 from September 14.
“The decision regarding the hike will be decided by the respective technical committees soon,” Tarai said.
Meanwhile, the bus owners have decided to agitate if the government fails to take a decision regarding the hike during the general body meeting of the All Odisha Private Bus Owners’ Association, scheduled to be held on by October 3.
The truck owners in the State are also undergoing through a bad business phase because there has been no hike in the freight charges since 2008, even after the hike in diesel by over Rs 12 since then.
