Kandhamal Riot Case: Justice A.S Naidu Commission to Begin Hearing from Today

Bhubaneswar: Former Judge of Odisha High Court Justice A. S Naidu, who is heading the judicial Commission of inquiry into the killing of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati and the resulting communal flare that rocked Kandhamal district in 2008, will begin hearing from today.

The judicial proceedings in the incident was stalled since the past four months following the death of Justice Sarat Chandra Mohapatra on May 12, 2012.

So far, out of the 500 affidavits received by the Commission, as many as 65 government and 101 private witnesses heve been examined.

The one-member Justice Mohapatra commission was appointed by the State Government on September 3, 2008, to inquire into the incident that had claimed around 100 lives and had rendered thousands homeless.
