Bhubaneswar: As many as seven students of Utkal University, including Utkal University Students’ Union president Tanmay Swain were critically injured after they were attacked by a group of unidentified assailants in the wee hours of Wednesday.

According to the students, the assailants armed with baseball bats and rods assaulted the students. The injured students were rushed to different private hospitals in the city, campus sources said.

Following the incident several students gheraoed the Saheed Nagar police station. However, no one has been arrested so far in connection with the case.

When asked about the incident, Manoj Biswal, ex-president of the Utkal University Students’ Union said, “We will stage state-wide agitation, if the culprits are apprehended immediately.”

Meanwhile, the PG Council has decided to hold a meeting to sort out the problem and to restore peace in the campus. The students are also going to meet the Vice-Chancellor of the University and DCP today.

Meanwhile, to avoid any untoward incident, One platoon police force has been deployed in the campus. However, tension prevails on the University campus.
