Man Jumps into Lion’s Enclosure at Nandankanan, Sustains Injuries
Bhubaneswar: A man was seriously injured after being attacked by a pair of lions in Nandankanan Zooligical Park near Bhubaneswar after he allegedly jumped into their enclosure on Friday.

The man has been indentified as Suryanarayan Das (45) from Chhatrapur in Ganjam district.

However, Das was rescued by the staff of the zoo within five minutes of the incident.

According to Kamal Lochan Purohit, Assistant Director of the Zoo, the man allegedly kept his water bottle, shoes and dress outside and jumped into the enclosure. “Although his body does not have any fatal bite mark, he sustained injuries as the lions dragged him for nearly 60 metres,” Purohit told.

Ruling out the possibility of somebody pushing Das into the enclosure, Purohit said, “He deliberately jumped into the enclosure.”

Das sustained multiple injuries on his skull, cheeks, neck, legs and hands. He was admitted to a city hospital and is currently out of danger.
