Bhubaneswar: Hectic political activities were witnessed on the 135th birth anniversary of Late Utkalmani Pandit Gopabandhu Das on Tuesday in Odisha with both the ruling BJD and Opposition Congress engaged in their respective ‘Padayatras’ to ‘expose’ each other and garner massive support.

While the Congress concluded its eight-day long ‘Parivartan Padyatra’ by holding a public meeting at Sakhigopal in Puri district by thanking the people for their massive support during the ‘Padyatra’, the ruling BJD continued its ‘Padyatra’and drew the attention of the people of the State by highlighting on the different welfare schemes launched by the State Government.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik along with all the three MLAs of Bhubaneswar and other senior leaders of the party held a mass contact drive at Salia Sahi, the largest slum in Bhubaneswar and highlighted on the Centre’s negligence and drew the attention of the people on how the Centre’s decision of raising the price of diesel, restricting the supply of subsidised cooking gas to 6 cylinders per household in a year and the recent price hike on cooking gas has imposed more burden on the people.

The ten-day long BJD padayatra that started on October 2 on the 143 rd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi will culminate on October 11 on the birth anniversary of Jayaprakash Nayaran.
