Bhubaneswar: Civil society leaders of Odisha have appealed to the State’s topmost Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda for the second time to shun violence and join the mainstream.
The leaders had written a letter to Panda on Tuesday, elaborating the steps taken by the State Government to fulfill most of his demands.
“The State Government has already started initiatives to meet your demands.” the letter said.
The letter also quoted that the State Home Secretary and Director General of Police (DGP) have already taken initiatives to review the Maoist cases in every two weeks.
Earlier on September 21, the signatories, who included Gandhians and freedom fighters Annapurna Maharana, Rabi Ray, Md Baji, Ratan Das, Bhabani Charan Patnaik, Krushna Mohanty, Bhagaban Prakash and Professor Radhamohan had appealed Panda to give up arms and return to mainstream.
They had asked Panda to give a serious thought to their proposal and to make his view public at the earliest.
