Bhubaneswar: State Health and Family Welfare Minister Damodar Rout, seems to be in deep trouble as the the Odisha Government has informed the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) that it is in no mood to bail out Rout’s plea for quashing of FIR against him in a dalit atrocity case pending before the Orissa High Court.
Home Secretary U N Behera has informed the State Governmet’s decision in a letter to NCSC.
Earlier in Chief Secretary B K Patnaik and DGP have been summoned by the commission in relation to this case. Patnaik was again summoned to appear before the Commission on October 15, but he could not do so due to his personal work. However, he will appear at a subsequent date, Government sources said.
It is noteworthy to mention that Rout, in a public meeting had made casteist remark against dalits.
Annoyed over Rout’s utterance, some dalit organisations lodged FIRs against Rout under Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (prevention of atrocity) Act, 1989. They also moved the NCSC seeking justice.
Later Rout had filed a petition before the High Court pleading for quashing of the FIRs against him.
