Bhubaneswar: With just one more day left for the students’ union elections in all colleges and universities for the 2012-13 academic session in the State, candidates on Thursday geared up for the ‘Why I Stand For’ meeting in their respective colleges.

As per the notification of the Department of Higher Education on October 2, the nomination papers for the election were filed and scrutinised on October 12 and the final list of valid nomination papers were published on October 13.

The elections will take place between 8 am and 2 pm on October 19 and the result is scheduled to be declared on the same day after counting the votes. The oath taking ceremony will be held on October 20 according to the notification.

Though the campuses are abuzz with excitement, the environment is also cool and peaceful as the Government notification clearly stated that in case any anti-poll activities occurs in the campuses in relation to the election, the election of the concerned college or university will be called off.
