Bhubaneswar: Four persons, including a village guard and three others were reportedly abducted by Maoits in two separate incidents in Malkangiri and Koraput districts on Saturday.
The abducted persons include Laxman Pangi (village guard), who was forced to accompany a group of armed Maoists and was dragged out at gun-point out of his house at Badural under Khairput police limits.
Another person Daya Chalan was abducted by a group of armed Maoists from Sanadural village adjoining Badural. Till Sunday evening, there was no information regarding the abducted persons.
In another incident two persons, including a woman, were suspected to have been abducted by Maoists on Saturday night from Ankadeli village on the Malkangiri-Koraput border.
In another incident, Maoists slit the throat of one Kadraka Gumpha near Shabdam dam in Narayanpatna – Rayagada main road under Bandhugan block of Koraput district last on Sunday suspecting him to be police informer.
Three posters were found near the deceased who hails from Gudumuda village under Nilabadi panchayat.
It is noteworthy to mention that Maoists are active in more than half of Odisha’s 30 districts. Malkangiri and Koraput is considered their stronghold.
Earlier, Bhagaban Nayak, a village guard of Giriput village under Baipariguda police station of Koraput district was allegedly abducted by Maoists. His bullet-ridden body was recovered near Majhiguda on October 18.
On October 16, the Maoists had abducted three persons, including two labour contractors from Buduguda village under Kalimela police station in Malkangiri. All the abducted persons were later released.
Earlier in September, nine persons, including a former sarpanch, a present sarpanch and two village guards, were abducted by Maoists from Chitrakonda reservoir area. The two village guards Manik Khilo and Jagabandhu Khilo were murdered and their bodies were found near Pansaput on September 25.
