Bhubaneswar: Maoist rebels on Saturday killed a village head, a day after kidnapping him from his home, by slitting his throat in Malkangiri district, police sources said.
The deceased has been identified as Pandu Madkami.
Over 50 armed rebels had abducted Madkami from his home at Parsanpalli on Friday. The incident came to light on Saturdaty after villagers spotted his body and informed the police.
Madkami along with some other villagers was summoned by the Maoists to appear before their court on October 17. The Maoists suspected him to be acting as a police informer and asked him to refrain from it. They had also asked him to quit contracting.
It is noteworthy to mention that Maoists are active in more than half of the area of the State. Malkangiri district, around 640 km from the state capital Bhubaneswar, is considered a Maoist stronghold.
