Bhubaneswar: Police on Tuesday arrested a rebel area commander during a combing operation in Tala Ginia area of Sundergarh district in Odisha.

The Maoist identified as Bipin Kumar Sahani alias Lambu is an area commander of CPI (Maoist) of Bhalulata – Dhiga region.

The weapons seized from the site during a search operation include a German-made revolver and three rounds of bullets.

Sahani confessed to his role in the Maoist organization during his interrogation and his involvement in four major Maoist offensives, police sources said.

Maoists are active in more than half of Odisha’s 30 districts. Combing operations at several strategic locations are being carried out on a regular basis in an effort to put a check on Maoist operations.
