Bhubaneswar: Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), Dr. P. L Punia arrived in Bhubaneswar for a two-day visit to the State on Thursday.

Dr. Punia conducted a day-long public hearing of people from as many as 18-sub castes who have been demanding their inclusion in the SC list.

Representaives of Gaudia Kela, Adhuria Damad, Rajaka, Betara, Patratanti, Bariki, Kumbhari, Khadal, Chik, Situria, Jayantara Pano, and Paunda Poda pleaded the Commission for SC status.

Apart from this, the Commission also heard the grievances from different NGOs and service organisations. The Commission also heard the allegations made by an NGO from Jagatsinghpur against Health and Family Welfare Minister Damodar Rout, for making casteist remark against dalits. The NGO demanded action against Rout.

The Commission also had a public meeting with sitting and former MLA and MPs.
