Bhubaneswar: State Health and Family Welfare Minister Damodar Rout on Sunday has announced to file a defamation case of Rs 1 crore, against National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), Chairman, Dr. P. L Punia for making a statement against him, during his two-days visit to the State.
Alleging that it is a conspiracy against him Rout said, “Punia’s statement has tarnished my image.”
Rout threatened to take legal action against Punia and others involved in defaming him by describing him as anti-dalit.
It is noteworhty to mention that Punia on the second day of his two-day visit to the State had observed that Rout should not continue in the State Cabinet, as his presence in the Cabinet was sending wrong message to the society.
Punia also said that he would discuss with Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to decide whether to retain Rout in his Cabinet, who had already been found guilty and charge sheeted for making casteist remarks against the scheduled caste at a public meeting in Jagatsinghpur district in 2010.
