Bhubaneswar: At least seven people, including a child, were killed by lightning in Odisha’s coastal belt, an official said Thursday.
Thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by strong winds hit parts of Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada districts Wednesday, killing a total of four people, the official said.
More than 100 trees got uprooted, electricity lines snapped and hundreds of houses were damaged.
Authorities had earlier reported three deaths by lightning in the port town of Paradip. The victims were mostly labourers.
