Bhubaneswar: A cold spell swept across Odisha with Phulbani town in Kandhamal district Friday recording 8.2 degrees Celsius, the day’s lowest in the state, an official said.

Phulbani town is about 200 km from here. A thick blanket of fog engulfed many parts of the district reducing visibility. People were seen warming themselves by burning wood and coal.

Other places which recorded minimum temperatures between 10-11 degrees Celsius included Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Sundargarh an official of the Bhubaneswar meteorological centre told IANS.

The state capital Bhubaneswar and its adjoining district’s headquarter town Cuttack remained comparatively warmer, he said.

The official said the cold wave was likely to continue for two more days.
