Bhubaneswar: Five hardcore Maoists were arrested in Koraput district in Odisha, an official statement said Sunday.

Acting on secret information, the troopers of 28 Battalion of BSF along with the local police arrested the five in China Sabdam forest under Bandhugaon police limits. Two Single Bore Muzzle Loaded (SBML) guns & Maoist posters were seized from the possession of the arrested naxalites.

The arrested Maoists were identified as Chekiti Prasad (28) of Nilabadi village, Jetu Meleka of Bandhugaon, Abhi Pidika (25), Bulu Pidika (22) and Adana Meleka (25) from China Sabdam village.

All the five were wanted by police since long as they were involved in several incidents of Maoist violence including murders, arson and looting.

Meanwhile, combing operation and patrolling has been intensified in the area.

Maoists are active in more than half of Odisha’s 30 districts. The district of Koraput is considered one of their strongholds.
