Bhubaneswar: Cyclone Madi that has intensified from a cyclonic storm into a severe cyclonic storm may bring scattered to isolated light rain in coastal and south Odisha for the next 48 hours, according to a forecast by India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The cyclone over the Bay of Bengal lay centred about 490 km away from Gopalpur off the Odisha coast on Sunday, an official said. Though IMD is yet to predict the landfall, it is expected to hit Tamil Nadu coast. However, it will have no impact on Odisha.
It has asked two state ports at Gopalpur and Paradip to keep hoisted distance warning signals and advised fishermen who are out at deep sea to return to safer places, S.C. Sahu, director of the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, told.
Under the influence of the cyclone, there will be a little rise in the night temperature in the next four days, while day temperature will witness a drop till Thursday, Sahu added.
