Bhubaneswar: Two days after Dhenkanal BJD youth leader Jasobant Parida was shot at, police, probing the case on Sunday said the ‘contract’ was struck by his arch-rival for Rs 10 lakh.
Manoranjan Mohanty, Superintendent of Police of Dhenkanal revealed it to mediapersons in a press conference at Dhenkanal soon after arrest of another man, identified as Lunia alias Subash Sahani on Sunday. Earlier police had arrested Suresh Panda for the crime.
Revealing the motive behind the crime the official stated that Deepak Mohanta, who was sent to jail in 2009 in connection with a murder case and suspected Parida’s role behind his arrest, had hired Panda and Sahani to kill Parida for Rs 10 lakh.
While the prime accused of the crime Mohanta is on run, a manhunt has been launched to nab him.
Parida (38) was shot at on his belly and hand Friday evening, police said. The incident took place when Parida was standing near his medicine shop in a crowded area of Kamakhyanagar town, about 100 km from Bhubaneswar.
Parida is recovering at SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCB MCH) in Cuttack.
