Bhubaneswar: Barring complaints of proxy voting, group clash and other stray incidents, the polling for the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation election was held peacefully on Wednesday.

However, the high voltage campaign by all the major political parties failed to enthuse voters. Although official figures of the percentage of polling were not available , State Election Commissioner Mr Ajit Tripathy told reporters that it would be around 40 to 45 per cent.

An estimated of 6,90,239 voters exercised their franchise in 660 booths locking the fate of 393 canddates contesting in 67 wards of BMC.

The counting of votes is in progress at the counting centre located at Buxi Jagabandhu Bidyadhar (BJB) College.
