Bhubaneswar: Hundreds of party workers and leaders greeted Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and gave him a rousing welcome in Odisha, where he arrived Sunday on a two-day tour, police said.
Gandhi is scheduled to proceed to Bhatapada village on Cuttack’s outskirts to address a public meeting, party sources said.
Later in the day he is also scheduled to hold road shows before returning to Bhubaneswar before night. In Bhubaneswar, he will interact with party leaders students and members from minority groups and then return to Delhi.
This is the second time that the 43-year-old Gandhi is visiting Odisha after assuming charge as vice president of the Congress.
The Congress has been sitting in the opposition in the state since 2000. In recent months, it has intensified organisational and political activities across Odisha in a bid to win power back.
Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the state is seen as an attempt to infuse fresh vigour in the beleaguered party.
