Movie Battle – Friday March 17

Lately, many movies have failed to give us a blockbuster performance in Indian cinema. Although many films are crossing the 100 crore mark or being declared hit, they are failing to seep in through the critics or audience. With Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya emerging a hit with ₹70+ crore, it’s time for us to assess new movies releasing this week.

Aakhi Kholile Tu Tu Hi Tu

Odia movies have a knack for the surprise element while releasing the movie. That’s why, we didn’t come across any promotional events or release information before it was in theatres. The movie features Deepak, Punam, Ayanti in the lead roles while Mihir Das, Aparajita and Minaketan also star in the movie. The movie seems like a typical rom-com love triangle. It’s the only Odia movie in theatres now, the chances of it doing well seems a little up although negligible.

From the Production House of Anurag Kashyap, comes another thriller that will surely trigger up the claustrophobia among the audience. Trapped is a story of a young man trapped inside his own apartment which is new with very less residents. The trauma that causes afterwards is depicted beautifully by Raj Kumar Rao who has given stellar performance before. The movie is directed by Vikramaditya Motwane who is another gem that Bollywood is lucky to have. The movie is based in a minimalistic environment and a small set that would be interesting to see how the movie fairs out.

Aa Gaya Hero

Comebacks for yesteryear stars in Bollywood had not been very fruitful for many in past years. But that doesn’t stop the Mass Entertainer of the 90s, Govinda, to once again enter the industry with a new movie. Aa Gaya Hero features Govinda in a role of a cop while other indie actors like Ashutosh Rana and Murli Sharma are also in the film. With average graphics and what seems like a below average story, the chances of the movie being a hit are really low. But in Cinema, you never know!

Abbas-Mustan have been the master of twists and turns in Bollywood movies with their directing. With hits like Baazigar, Race, Race 2, they have made quite a name for themselves in the showbiz. Both are coming up with a new movie Machine which also launches their son Mustafa. The movie also stars Kiara Advani, Ronit Roy and others. The movie is about racing with a love story which is also very typical of Abbas Mustan. We don’t have very high hopes with this movie but would like to know how this one fairs. The movie has garnered a bit of attraction by re-creating one of the very hit songs from the 90s “Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast“.

Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast is one of the most famous fairy tales that has been retold countless times through cinema. But the specialty about this edition would be the star cast which is full of lovely actors. Luke Evans, Emma Watson, Dan Stevens are few of them who are bestowed upon with huge responsibility of acting in the movie. Beauty and the Beast would be also the first Disney movie to feature a LGBT love story which is truly progressive and a great step. The movie is directed by Bill Condon.

So, these are the movies that are releasing this Friday. While most of the movies have failed to impress us, we seriously hope to be wrong so that you can pick your favourite movie and enjoy it in the theatres!
